Tips for EasyGaiter Rubbing

Gaiter_3 Are any of your customers experiencing rubbing issues with the EasyGaiters? If so here are a few helpful ideas to pass on:

  1. Use BodyGlide all around the fetlocks.
  2. Loosen gaiters if you feel they are too tight (Usually they are tightened as much as possible per the Epic instructions).
  3. Use vet wrap and/or knee high nylon stockings by  starting at the hoof and going up to the fetlock joint.
  4. Wrapping duct tape around the pastern has also  helped with rubbing issues.

These are a few suggestions from EasyCare that we have either heard from our users or experienced ourselves. Click here for more helpful tips from Karen.

Easyboot Epic Fitting

As I am sure you are aware, the EasyCare website has a ton of useful information.  Some of the most helpful information are our educational videos.  We have shot a number of videos covering everything from fitting to a  movement demonstration.  Check out the video below, it shows how to fit our most popular boot, the Easyboot Epic.

The Black Heritage Riders Cross The USA In EasyCare Hoof Boots

The Black Heritage Riders are going strong as Miles Dean and Sankofa along with Reggie Gough make their way on a journey riding horseback from New York to LA!  Miles Dean, executive director of the New Jersey-based non-profit organization set out on a 6,000-mile trek from New York to California in September.  The 58-year old elementary school teacher is on a mission to educate people about African-American contributions and achievements.  Dean tries to average about 30 miles each day he is on the road and he hopes to reach California by February, which is Black History Month.  Hoof Care Practitioner Carrie Christiansen of Browns Mills, NJ provided Miles horses with a good trim, boots and education on booting.  Dean's horse sports Old Mac G2's in the front and Easyboot Epics behind, all with Comfort Pads.  Check them out in action and click here to track their progress!

Three of the Top Ten AERC Riders Use EasyCare Hoof Boots

The year-end mileage results are in for the American Endurance Ride Conference.  Three of the top ten riders used EasyCare hoof boots over their horse's bare feet (Easyboots, Epics, and Bares ) for the entire ride season.  They are:

Karen Chaton and Granite Chief +/ (Arabian) 1370 miles Terri_2

Dave Rave and Lightening Strike (Arabian) 1120 miles

Terri Tinkman and Oliver Twist (Tennessee Walker) with 1120 miles (pictured)

The results can be found here

Not only is this exciting because it is the first year that three barefoot and booted horses have made top ten, but there is a Tennessee Walker in the mix!  In addition, the riders in our hoof boot contest completed over 19,000 sanctioned miles in boots in 2007alone.

After attending many consumer shows and talking to our dealers we know that there are still numerous people out there, in spite of our best efforts, that aren't convinced you can ride in hoof boots. Here is your ammunition!  And yes, they work on gaited horses.

Congratulations Karen, Dave and Terri!

Easyboot Epic Testimonial

Soon after I purchased Miss Bear Cat (Kitty) 10 years ago as a Western Pleasure Show horse, she was diagnosed as having navicular syndrome, though x-rays showed no real damage. We went through all the typical pads, egg bars, bute but nothing seemed to change things much.

In time Kitty became my trail horse and we enjoyed our Sunday morning rides within the limits of her ability. She would weave left and right down hills, tread cautiously and slowly on hard ground. Eventually she would not stand to be shod in the back because of the difficulty bearing the weight on the front during the process. So Kitty became barefooted in the rear using Easyboots for trail riding.

I found great interest in reading the stories of barefoot horses and navicular syndrome on the EasyCare website and decided a few months ago to give Kitty one last chance to heal naturally. It has only been three months but Kitty has almost fully recovered. She stands squarely, does not point and will allow all of her legs to be held and trimmed.

In her Easyboot Epics front and rear we are off every week for a fast paced trail ride outpacing the horses she always trailed behind. I truly believe that she is passed any problem she has had and I know we will be back at the shows this fall.

Thank you Easyboots. Seeing her in no pain was worth all of the effort!

Western Horseman and Easyboot Epics

Wh907Last month Western Horseman featured the Easyboot Epic in their Gear Guide section.

The Epic is one of our best selling and most popular boots.  Here is more information on it from our website:

The Easyboot Epic horse riding boot is ideal for the barefoot horse, aggressive conditions or for a horse who is difficult to keep booted.

The attached Easyboot Gaiter provides extra protection to the hoof as well as keeps excess dirt and debris from getting into the boot. It also helps keep the boot on during extreme conditions such as mud, snow, and water crossings. This is an excellent boot for long distance riding!

If you need any graphics of Epics or other EasyCare products they can be found on the EasyCare media page, or in the EasyCare Dealer's Corner --> Dealer's Area section. Don't see a graphic that you'd like to have - just ask us

Danielle's adventures continue!!

9/25: Danielle is enjoying her trip immensely. Her 3 horses realized that they are not going home anytime soon and are more relax now. Her Rever_81_dweill_1 2 dogs are very happy to run and to be free. This month has been amazing for her. People are extremely nice and helpful. Maybe too much sometimes …. She slept on the front lawn of a hospital and enjoyed hospital food for breakfast and a warm shower. She slept in front of a monastery where monks took the vow of silence, she made sure her dogs were silent too. She had to cross barriers and rivers and roads and small freeways. She encountered a heavy rainstorm, and was lucky that 2 older men helped her to move her tent and all her stuff to the village’s barn and took cover there. One admirer tracked her down and offered her a pound of fine chocolate, offered by the chocolate master himself when he heard of Danielle’s journey. One lunch, she sat at a table of a small restaurant, and the whole village was there speaking with her. The restaurant owner invited her and gave all the leftovers for her dogs who were simply in dog heaven! Journalist are catching up with her, so more people are saying that they saw her in the local newspaper. She is now in the Lyon area, and continuing her journey towards Spain. The weather is still fairly good. Danielle is absolutely happy and one with herself as she was expecting to be.

Epic Testimonial...continued....

Here is an update from Danielle.....

8/30: One month already or only? Beautiful full moon at night and now a rising sun with a veil of clouds. Another beautiful day. Assessment of this leg of the trip: 410K, barefoot mostly although some paths are not natural, made of broken rocks and stones. The other paths are not maintained. My prosthetic leg is broken, the pin is lost on the spare one which I replaced with wire. In the meantime I shipped back the broken one, which is the newer one, to be fixed. When it is fixed and when I'll have a shipping address again, they'll ship it to me. I have a new tent to replace the lost one. I lost it the day I broke my prosthetic because I was hoping on one leg and did not attached it well to the horse. I do not think I'll reach the Cathares castles, but the most important is that the horses, my dogs and I are continuing together, happy.

And a note from her Daughter...

8/30: Montbazon: While crossing a village today, a woman offered her her house to stay. But since it was only 3 PM, Danielle declined the offer and wanted to go on until at least 6 PM. The weather changed rapidly and Danielle changed her mind, and was hoping that maybe this lady had a teen ager who could also help her with her phone. She retraced her steps back to the village and tried to find her, unsuccessfully. Meanwhile an other family offered her their house.

Danielle accepted and went to their farm. She put the horses in a field and went to the barn to set up her bed. The hosts insisted on her staying in a bedroom, but Danielle refused. During dinner, one of the children went to the barn and set up a bed for her. Danielle was very surprised and very grateful to such hosts. Danielle put the epic boots on her mares who seems to enjoy them very much. The horse is finally accepting them. I guess he understood the benefit of them for such a long journey.

Below is an email and pictures that I received from a woman whose mother is living out one of her life long dreams!  Check back, as I am hoping to get updates!

Danielle’s journey.

Img_1991_2  I am writing on behalf of my mother Danielle. She rides horses since a child. She is 61 years old. She has only one leg following an accident when she was 35 years old. She is now on a trip across France starting from Alsace, near Germany, and planning to go all the way to the Cathar country, Carcassone area, Spanish border, and back home. The trip will last about 9 months. She is traveling alone with her 3 horses and 2 dogs. The 2 mares are pregnant and one of them will deliver her foal in April, while still traveling, but almost back home. Her horses are barefoot for over 2 years now. She already went 500 km. But her horses, especially the male, were in pain to be barefoot. We rushed an order of Easyboot Epics to be delivered to an address nearby where she was camping. Since then the horses are going without complaints and seem to love the boots. She already did more than 100 km with the boots and counting. She sleeps outdoors, near lakes if possible. Has solar batteries for her cell phone and recharges her batteries for her camera on a base with a crank.  As for her food supplies (animal and human), she carries 4 days worth and must make it to a village by then. So far so good. But on an earlier expedition, about 4 years ago, she starved and started eating what her dogs were bringing back, or what she found in the forest. This time she is trying not to let that happen again, and keep her routes close by villages when the 3rd day approaches. She is enjoying beautiful sceneries. Meeting wonderful people. And best of all she is enjoying herself. Now with the Easyboot Epics, her journey can only go easier.

Nadia

8/28: She is by a river "riviere de l'oignon", enjoying the good weather and the forest. One of her mare is wearing 4 boots epic. The male is still refusing to wear them, but it is just a matter of time.... Yesterday Danielle crossed a village and a woman offered her a room in her house because she heard of her and wanted to talk to her about this experience. But Danielle politely declined and went to set up camp in the forest. This experience is to be one with nature and prove to herself that she can do it. The local newspaper was looking for her but was not successful, maybe next time.... Danielle is trying to understand how to use her email with her cell phone. Once she'll be able to do that, she can email us photos and text directly that I will translate into English.
To be continued....

Dome Pads are Here!

We are in the process of producing dome shaped comfort pads that fit inside Easyboots, Epics, Bares and Grips.  They have been in testing for quite some time, with some amazing results.  Unlike our flat comfort pads, the dome pad lends more support to the inner frog and sole areas for horses that have sufficient concavity in the foot. (These pads are not for flat footed horses.)  If a customer is in doubt about which pad to buy and you are unfamiliar with their various uses, you should continue to steer your customers to our flat comfort pads which are versatile for both riding and therapy.  Domepads_2

We currently have medium size dome pads in stock.  They fit into the size 1 and 2 boots.

We will be getting large and small dome pads in the next eight to ten weeks.  We are not currently making them for the Boa, Old Mac's or Soaker lines.  For more information please give us a call at 1-800-447-8836.

EasyCare Epics take to the Donkey Derby

Dsc01745

This story comes to us from Sally Hug a Hoof Care Practitioner, Dealer out in Oroville, California.  Sally has some amazing stories and this is one of them!

The donkey's name is "Rose" and she is owned by Anne Benoit of Paradise, CA.  Anne and her husband own a Christmas tree farm where people come to cut their own tree.  In addition to Rose, they have several other donkeys and goats for the kids to pet and play with during the holiday season when the tree farm is open.
Rose has foundered at some point in her life, but gets along well with regular hoof care.  However, her real asset (no pun intended) is participating in the annual "Donkey Derby"  during the Paradise "Gold Nugget Days" celebration of the discovery of the 54 pound "Dogtown Nugget".  Click here to learn about the event.

The real challenge of the Donkey Derby is the obstacle course at the end and I have been told that Rose is a pro at it.  However, she needs protection for her little hooves over the rocks and pavement on the course- that's where the Epics come into the picture.  With those EasyCare Epics on her feet, Rose should be a major contender next April!

Thanks again Sally for this great story.  Stay tuned for more updates on Rose and how she does in the 2008 Donkey Derby!

Tack'nTogs has a great article about hoof boots and how the equine world has discovered the advantages of barefoot.

EasyCare Easyboot comfort strap

Our new comfort strap comes standard on the Easyboot Epic, Easyboot Bare and the Easyboot Grip. The comfort strap does not have metal teeth, is completely smooth against the hoof and has no sharp edges. Unlike the Easyboot shell, whose durability improves as it cures with age, the softer, more flexible material used in the backstraps can become cracked and brittle over time. Replace an old, cracked or torn comfort strap with a new, soft, pliable comfort strap anytime. No special tools (other than a screwdriver) required. Screws, washers and t-nuts included. Please specify Easyboot Bare or Easyboot Epic size when ordering. Not recommended for use in the Easyboot.  If you are not currently carrying our boot accessories, you may want to check into it, your customers will thank you.  All of our boots have replaceable parts, we don't make disposable products!

Good news! The New Dome Pads will soon be part of EasyCare's Comfort Pad product line! The pads will be available to our dealers very soon!  Watch for further details!

Turning and Burning in Epics!

100_0769_medium_5

Barrel racers love their Epics!  Hoof Care Practitioner Johnny Holder sent this to me last week as a testament to the versatility of the Epics.  Johnny writes, Here are the pictures of C.J. Holdren and her horse ‘Chuck’ at a Barrel Racers of Texas (BRAT) race held in Alvarado TX on April 22 2007.  I pulled Chuck's shoes and fitted him in EasyCare Epics about a month before this race.  C.J. did her part by continuing to ride and train while Chuck gained confidence in his new boots.  This race was won by Kassie Mowery with a time of 15.426 seconds (Kassie is a former NFR qualifier).  C.J placed 5th in the 3rd division with a time of 16.514 seconds.  My wife Liz won 1st in 3rd division with a time of 16.432 on her barefoot horse ‘Cranberry’.  My trimming was well represented at this race with 1 in the top 15 and two horses in the money.  The pictures are as follows: #1 is C.J and Chuck immediately after their run.  #2 is a closer view of boots immediately after their run.  Hope you enjoy these pics.  Talk to you soon. ~Johnny Holder 100_0770_2_8

Linda Cowles, another terrific Hoof Care Practitioner sent me these photos sent to her by Deb Buckler of her granddaughter, Kaiden Wilkinson at a race in Santa Ynez, CA.

Congratulations girls and thank you Linda and Johnny for these great stories!

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Hello everybody, I received this quick note from one of our dealers today.  People are watching...

Hi Debbie, Just a quick note. Sunday I was on a big ride (I actually don't like big rides because my horse gets too concerned about what everyone else is doing...), about 40 people. Myself and 2 others were using easyboots (Bares, Epics, some Old Macs) and during the course of the ride I think at least a dozen people came by to ask me about the boots, and with genuine interest. It was quite refreshing to talk to people and tell them why I think the boots are better than shoes. Being a farrier, maybe they value my opion more. Who knows, but maybe a few will give the boots a try. That's all!

Jim Keip

Keep up the great work Jim and thanks for the feedback!
