Green Horse Show Gork

It's horse show season again!  This is a favorite recipe of mine to take to the shows, mostly because of the name and the memories that go with it.  My riding students used to make fun of me and my "Gork."  One student teased me so badly I just had to get her back.  She boarded her horse with me so I started to call him "Gork." I took his shiny gold name tag off the stall and replaced it a tacky cardboard "Gork the Dork" sign. When schooling show time came, I entered him as "Gork."  You get the picture.  She returned the favor, but that's a story for another time.  As you read through the recipe you'll probably think, "That sounds familiar." You may have had it before, but with the modifications, horse show people can call it their own.  This originally came from Kathy Norton of Yakima, Washington.

1   3-ounce package lime gelatin

1   8-ounce can crushed pineapple

1 1/4 cups mini marshmallows

2 cups small curd cottage cheese

8 ounces whipped topping

Make gelatin according to package directions for quick-set method using 7 ice cubes.  Drain pineapple, reserving juice. Combine reserved juice and marshmallows in saucepan.  Cook over low heat until marshmallows are almost melted, stirring frequently.  Add to gelatin, mix well.  Add cottage cheese and pineapple; mix well.  Chill in refrigerator until partially set.  Fold in whipped topping.  Pour into containers for traveling. Chill until firm.  Gelatin can be chilled in freezer for 30 minutes for faster setting.    --Cathie Hook

Inspirational Quote

Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes.  In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt.  Release the fear.  Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life.  What is it you would let go of today?

EasyCare Education: Barefoot vs Shod - Seeing Is Believing!

Hoof Care Practitioner Patrice Sager of Lost City, WV sent these clips in from You Tube and they really do say it all.  Educating your clients is key to selling hoof boots.  EasyCare has an excellent website for educating yourself, clients and sales staff in order that they may truly understand the significance of the barefoot lifestyle; how and why EasyCare hoof boots and Comfort Pads are used and why they should play a part in every barefoot horse's life.

The Black Heritage Riders Cross The USA In EasyCare Hoof Boots

The Black Heritage Riders are going strong as Miles Dean and Sankofa along with Reggie Gough make their way on a journey riding horseback from New York to LA!  Miles Dean, executive director of the New Jersey-based non-profit organization set out on a 6,000-mile trek from New York to California in September.  The 58-year old elementary school teacher is on a mission to educate people about African-American contributions and achievements.  Dean tries to average about 30 miles each day he is on the road and he hopes to reach California by February, which is Black History Month.  Hoof Care Practitioner Carrie Christiansen of Browns Mills, NJ provided Miles horses with a good trim, boots and education on booting.  Dean's horse sports Old Mac G2's in the front and Easyboot Epics behind, all with Comfort Pads.  Check them out in action and click here to track their progress!

The New Easyboot Name is......

New_easycare_hoof_boot_0011 The winner of the contest to name the new boot is...Pete Ramey!  Pete was the only person to suggest the name Easyboot Edge.

It took a lot of time to narrow the names down.  We had nearly 1600 names submitted, in which over 1200 were unique (not duplicated).  We narrowed them down, then voted, narrowed down and voted some more.  Discussed which ones we liked or didn't like, and why.  Then FINALLY we decided on the Easyboot Edge!!!

We will be rigorously testing the new boot and only when we are satisfied that it passes all of our tests will it be released to the public.  We look forward to updating you on the status of the Easyboot Edge!

Don't forget, applications are still being accepted for Team Easyboot, for those that are interested in helping out with the testing process.

The Two Wolves

Images3One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.  He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all..

One is Evil.  It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?" The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Danielle's adventures continue!!

9/25: Danielle is enjoying her trip immensely. Her 3 horses realized that they are not going home anytime soon and are more relax now. Her Rever_81_dweill_1 2 dogs are very happy to run and to be free. This month has been amazing for her. People are extremely nice and helpful. Maybe too much sometimes …. She slept on the front lawn of a hospital and enjoyed hospital food for breakfast and a warm shower. She slept in front of a monastery where monks took the vow of silence, she made sure her dogs were silent too. She had to cross barriers and rivers and roads and small freeways. She encountered a heavy rainstorm, and was lucky that 2 older men helped her to move her tent and all her stuff to the village’s barn and took cover there. One admirer tracked her down and offered her a pound of fine chocolate, offered by the chocolate master himself when he heard of Danielle’s journey. One lunch, she sat at a table of a small restaurant, and the whole village was there speaking with her. The restaurant owner invited her and gave all the leftovers for her dogs who were simply in dog heaven! Journalist are catching up with her, so more people are saying that they saw her in the local newspaper. She is now in the Lyon area, and continuing her journey towards Spain. The weather is still fairly good. Danielle is absolutely happy and one with herself as she was expecting to be.

Doing what you can for the environment

Small changes lead to extraordinary results!!  Here is a list of things we can all do to help:

Change the bulb (buy energy-saving products)

Only light the room you are in

Let the sunshine in!

Adjust thermostat down a couple degrees in winter, up in summer

Shut off your computer and screen, unplug charges when not needed

Turn off televisions and radios when not using (another challenge for kids...)

Use ceiling fans

Walk, bike or take public transportation (ride your horse!!)

Wash clothes in cold water

Recycle!!

A Little Horse Humor

A cowboy rode into town and stopped at a saloon for a drink. Unfortunately, the locals always had a habit of picking on strangers, which he was. When he finished his drink, he found his horse had been stolen. He went back into the bar, handily flipped his gun into the air, caught it above his head without even looking and fired a shot into the ceiling.

"WHICH ONE OF YOU SIDEWINDERS STOLE MY HOSS?" he yelled with surprising force. No one answered. "ALRIGHT, I'M GONNA HAVE ANOTHA BEER, AND IF MY HOSS AIN'T BACK OUTSIDE BY THE TIME I FINISH, I'M GONNA DO WHAT I DONE IN TEXAS! AND I DON'T LIKE TO HAVE TO DO WHAT I DONE IN TEXAS!"

Some of the locals shifted restlessly. He had another beer, walked outside, and his horse was back! He saddled up and started to ride out of town. The bartender left the bar and asked meekly, "Say partner, before you go... what happened in Texas?"

The cowboy turned back and said, "I had to walk home."

Oregon School of Natural Hoof Care

Practice_rasp_2EasyCare Dealer Rep. Debbie Schwiebert had the privilege of attending the Oregon School of Natural Hoof Care this past August.   Debbie handles the Hoof Care Professional's Dealer Accounts at EasyCare and was very excited to attend the school and receive some first hand trimming experience.  Cheryl Henderson who runs the school along with Laura Vaughan have dedicated themselves to helping others understand the hoof.  Working together with other hoof care professionals in Oregon, they provide a community service to the equine through monthly free clinics.  Realizing the hoof is the most neglected, misunderstood and owner shunned responsibility of horse care the school aims to change this though education.  For more information on the Oregon School of Natural Hoof Care, contact Cheryl Henderson at 541-899-1535 or www.abchoofcare.com .Mule_trim_2   GroundsKnife_work
