With the launch of the "Generation 2" Old Mac's, you may be wondering how they differ from the originals, and if the G-2's will soon be the only Old Mac's available. At EasyCare, we recognize that there will still be a need for the originals, mostly because of their shape. The original Old Mac's are great for horses that are very wide and short in the foot. Granted, this isn't a majority of horses, but some horses will not fit into a standard, more elongated, boot shape. Add this to the fact that there are "die hard" Old Mac users out there who don't want to change what has been working for them, and you still have a market for originals. EasyCare will continue to have these boots available to you and your customers.
There are a few main differences between the originals and the G'-2. Most notably is that the sole was changed to accommodate a greater variety of hoof shapes. This means new sizing, so you will have to be sure you are looking at the correct size chart to fit your customer's horses. In the original boot chart, you could have up to a four-size difference in the length and the width and still be able to fit the boot. With the new boot, if the horse's hoof is more than one size apart in the width and length then you shouldn't recommend the boot.
One addition to the boot which should make your job easier is the reinforcements at the heel. In the original Old Mac's it was sometimes hard to determine an exact fit because the heel was so flexible. Now, with the reinforcement, your customers will know instantly if the boot is too small.
