Q. Does the Boa Boot fit horses with very round, circular shaped hooves? I want to use on my thoroughbred, who have very round hooves. It is ONLY to be used for turn out as a spare tire, when he has lost his regular shoe occasionally. I am not going to ride in the boot. Because I will only use for this purpose, I want a boot that is EASY to apply, and that fits well, and stays on during turn out long days.
A. The Boa Horse Boots are a little longer than they are wide, so I would recommend measuring your horse's hooves. If you could measure right before and right after a trim you would see what kind of growth your horse's hooves have, and it will help you with deciding whether the boots are going to work or not. You will need to measure the widest part of the hoof from side to side, and the length, measuring from the toe to the buttress line. The buttress line is the furthest weight bearing point of the heel.
For what you are looking for, using the boot for a spare tire during turnout, you may want to look at the Easyboot Epic. The Boa Horse Boot may be the easiest of the boots to apply, but they are sold in pairs. The Easyboot Epic is sold per boot. The Boa boots come up to the hairline, whereas all the hard parts of the Epic are below the hairline, eliminating any chance of rubbing or chaffing while your horse is turned out for the day.
Please remember that with any of our boots, we recommend taking the boot off at least every 24 hours to ensure that everything is okay and to clean out any debris.
having measured my mare 4 boots it seems the only type that accomadates her hoof shape is the boa boots..hav used these before on my gelding but his hooves are v deep.my mares hooves measure 6.5cms hairline to ground @ toe.she looks more like an 'epic' kind of girl.will the boas b ok or is there sum other way mabe using pads.also is it best 2 use pads with 'boas and or epics to maintain a good blood supply through frog and sole.
