Nancy and Andrew Bowe have a great website regarding Bare Hoof Care. Andrew Bowe is a career master farrier who specializes in the barefoot rehabilitation of horses that are suffering chronic lameness. His business is situated in Victoria, Australia.
One of their many articles is "Why Barefoot?". Why Barefoot questions 1,000 years of solid tradition and proves why traditions need to be broken at this time. We no longer use the horse for warfare, agriculture and transport. We have the machines to do this now. Shod horses seem to show more chronic lamness, loss of function and compromised circulation. Pictures and explanations are clearly shown to prove what a metal shoe can do to a horse's hooves and what a barefoot horse can do.
Besides this article, there are others regarding barefoot and using horse boots that we will share with you in future blogs. Some of their articles feature the EasyCare line of boots such as the Epic, Boa and Old Mac styles. These boots are great during that transition time and also when a little extra protection is needed.
