Below is an update on Danielle's journey towards Spain with her 3 horses in Easyboots!
3/4/08 - Danielle went all the way to Carcassonne. Spent Christmas and New Year in the Pyrenees. She met people in farms and villages who invited her for Christmas dinner and New Year's Eve. She was right on time for her schedule. As she started heading back toward Alsace, Uahid (the male who is the oldest) could not walk anymore. He was limping and he seemed to be in pain. She had to stop for about a week and a half and a veterinarian came daily to check on him. After all this care, he was much better.
Danielle thinks it is because of the cold, which made the sole of his hoof painful. Danielle was stressing to go back on the road. One of her mares is due mid-April and she was hoping to be back home for the birth. Now it seems she is not going to make it. She was in Bourges recently, and there she unloaded the very pregnant mare. Friends will bring back home the luggage. Her dog Roxanne almost died of eating rat poisoning, she survived thanks to Vit. K pills that Danielle had just in case...When she got in Bourges at her friend's house, a big doberman attacked the poor, weakened Roxanne and almost killed her. She had to go to surgery and spend the night at the veterinarian. Roxanne had to go home to rest. She will be back in a month on the trails.
Danielle is doing very well and is enjoying her journey to it's fullest. The weather is still cold, but the days are longer, which let her to be on the road longer each day. She still uses her winter gear, but may have to switch soon.
