The EasyCare August newsletter has a very informative article written by Dr. Christine King on the shoes vs. barefoot debate. If you have any interest in this topic, you have probably read numerous articles on the subject already! What makes this piece different, is the focus is on one particular aspect of the structure and function of the horse's foot that doesn't usually make it into the debate: the sensory functions of the hoof.
Remember, as the article states at the end, some horses cannot comfortably go barefoot completely and may need the protection, support or traction afforded by a well chosen boot.
