On January 12th I competed in a local CTR in the Catalina Mountains of
Arizona. 25 miles on sand, rock, and cactus. I have been riding
barefoot with both our horses most of the time here. The time window
for the ride was 5 hr 30min with a 20 vet hold, a pretty fast pace when
you consider the terrain. I had planned on using easy boots on
front feet only, bares on one and originals on the other. (I had a
friend riding my horse and I was riding my husband Larry's horse
smoke.) Well, went to put on the bares and Smokes feet have gotten
wider! So I pulled the originals off my horse Phlame as his feet are
super and he had the lighter rider, and put them on Smoke. (Are you
lost yet?) So one horse barefoot, and the other with only boots on the
front. Both horse came though with great scores. My friend took 1st
Novice, and 2nd in the lightweight div. I took 2nd in heavy weight
div.! I was so pleased, and won a stowaway easy boot pack to boot. No
chips no ouchy feet. I will probably continue to use boots in
competition but what a great test.
I would have loved to try out the new edge, but just not enough time to get them here.
Happy Trails from Carol Crisp in Tucson.
